The Combat Simulator is where you can battle against or with up to eight simulants and/or four human players. It is probably the most fun mode of play in the game since there are unlimited combinations of weapons, players, difficulties, and other modes of play. Therefore, the most replay value of this game you can get is in the combat simulator.

There are many options available to you when you select the Combat Simulator. Each of these are described below.

Challenges
Participate alone or with friends to complete 30 unique challenges that get progressively tougher as you complete each one. By unlocking and beating the challenges, you open up new modes of play in the Combat Simulator and also unlock more weapons. Characters in your player selection are also revealed after certain challenges are beaten.

Load/Preset Games
This where you can load previous saved games or load a preset game unlocked by beating some challenges. Up to four games can be saved on the game pak for further use.

Quick Start
If you just want to get into a game without going through the tedious setup then this is the mode for you. You get fewer options ranging from Player vs. Player, to Player-Simulant Teams. Other basic options follow in which you can customize only the ones you absolutely need before startinga quick game.

Advanced Setup
This mode gives you entire control over a single multiplayer game. Every single option is available, even special ones such as Lock and Soundtrack selection. This is probably the best option for everyone because it allows full customizability.

Inside Advanced Setup there are over 25 options available to be changed. These options are all described below.

Game Setup:
Scenario
This is the type of gameplay you would like to use.

Combat: Pretty much kill anything that moves that isn't on your team

Hold the Briefcase: Grab the briefcase and hold it for 30 seconds to gain a point. A person carrying the case cannot pick up a shield as long as it is in their possession.

Hacker Central: Get the Data Uplink and use it on the computer terminal for 20 game seconds to score two points.

Pop a Cap: One person is "it" and must live for 60 seconds to gain a point. The person that kills the one who is "it" pops a cap and gets two points. The person who is "it" is then randomly determined.

King of the Hill: In this mode, a set area is highlighted and one person must hold that area for 20 seconds to gain a point. If an enemy player enters the hill, the timer stops until they die or leave. The more players in a hill on the same team when the timer reaches 0, the more points are gained.

Capture the Case: This is a team scenario where a base is selected for each team and a briefcase to go along with it. People  from each team must try to take the opposing team's briefcase and bring it back to theirs to score 3 points. A person carrying a case has a slight disadvantage because their speed is slowed down.

Options
This is where you choose specific options for the game. Some of these change based on what scenario is being played.

One-Hit Kills: Any amount of damage done to a player no matter how small will kill them. A shield gives them an extra bit of protection.

Slow Motion: Choose to have the game played at half of its normal speed. Smart means that gameplay will be slowed down only when an enemy is nearby or a threat.

Fast Movement: This option allows the game to be played at 1.5 times the normal speed.

Display Team: This shows a coloured tint over a player on a specific team. E.g. My team is Red. With this option on, I would have a red tint on my character.

No Radar: There is no radar image at the top right of each player's screen.

No Auto-Aim: There is no help given to players when they are trying to aim at an enemy.

No Pick-up Highlight: No highlight will be on any weapon or ammo box on the ground.

No Player Highlight: No highlight will be shown on any players.

Arena
This allows the option of choosing which arena or level the game is played in. There is a total of 3 default levels and 12 others. These can be unlocked by unlocking and beating the various challenges. There may even be some hidden Goldeneye 007 levels. See Mysteries for more details.

Weapons
This is the place where you can choose the six weapons you will be using in the match. These can also be unlocked by unlocking and beating the challenges.

Limits
You can decide between Time, Score, and Team Score Limits in this area.

Player Handicaps
Certain human player's health can be increased or reduced depending on their skill level or whether you want to become stronger without using cheats.

Simulants
This is where the game can become interesting or tougher. You can choose up to 8 simulants or bots using this option. Each Simulant has a difficulty level, type, and character they will use. Here are the various types of sims available for use.

MeatSim: This sim is the bottom of the barrel and is as good as a chunk of meat. Worthless but a good start for a newbie player.

EasySim: This sim has the basic skills of a deathmatcher but isn't all that good.

NormalSim: This sim has good knowledge of fighting skills and is as good as the average human player.

HardSim: This sim has good skills at fighting and isn't too cheap. They are as good as an advanced human player.

PerfectSim: Fast and very good aim, this sim is top notch and an excellent deathmatcher. Equal to or better than a very good human player.

DarkSim: This sim is a cyborg created by dataDyne. They are the cheapest of the cheap and are tough to beat.

PeaceSim: This sim dislikes weapons and goes around the arena collecting them at all costs and will disarm other players for them even though they never fire a shot.

ShieldSim: This sim is a pure coward and will run to the shield whenever it gets the chance.

RocketSim: This sim is the king of explosives and will always go for the most destructive weapon in the level.

KazeSim: This sim has no fear at all and will fight no matter what the odds are, even rushing at you with their fists flying.

FistSim: This sim will never use any weapon but its bare handsin combat.

PreySim: This sim will attack the weakest player in the arena, hoping to get easy kills.

JudgeSim: This sim is the opposite of the PreySim and will attack the strongest player, hoping to even out the odds.

CowardSim: This sim will run away from combat unless it is forced to fight or has a clear advantage over its adversary.

FeudSim: This sim will pick a target for its rage and will attack that player for the rest of the game, usually ignoring all other players.

SpeedSim: This sim is much faster than any other sim or human. They can go at about 1.5 times faster than a human player.

TurtleSim: This sim has a super shield which can take 100% more damage than a normal shield. This heavy shield also weighs them down and therefore, reuces their speed.

VengeSim: This sim will attack the last player to kill it during the game until another one kills it.
